About Stephen

Stephen is an accomplished, well-qualified Facilities Management practitioner with an MSc in Facility & Environment Management and wide experience in a variety of industries in developing and implementing FM solutions for blue-chip companies.


He is experienced in dealing with organisational and cultural complexity in multi-national corporate environments, managing multiple stakeholders, and delivering practical and effective results.


He is a creative problem solver, with the ability to identify root-cause issues in complex situations, and then develop and implement effective solutions. His analytical skills include process mapping and improvement, and contract analysis, risk analysis, and commercial analysis. His practical skills include implementation management and project and programme management.


Professional History


Stephen began his working life in the construction industry working for major construction firms including Wimpey, Tarmac, and Mowlem.  He had various roles including construction planning, site engineering, and supervision of contractors, across a variety of industrial, commercial, residential, and civil engineering developments.


After a career break to pursue other interests he took an MSc course in Facility and Environment Management at University College London, and that lead him into a career in Facilities Management.  He worked for a number of years for an innovative start-up FM company, Coflex Ltd (latterly ISS Coflex), as both an operational FM and a Change Manager.  Eventually he worked as a Commercial Manager for ISS World Services on their first global facilities services contract for Hewlett Packard.


Since 2016 Stephen has operated as an independent FM consultant.  He has undertaken assignments across the UK and in the Middle East.  His assignments have included both consultancy and interim operational roles.

Key Achievements:

  • Led development, implementation, and operation of commercial processes and financial budgeting and reporting processes on a US $423m global, facilities services account for Hewlett Packard.

  • Achieved improved Client satisfaction for Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi through improving the helpdesk process (including communication procedure to M&E contractor and feedback to customers) leading to improved customer service.

  • Improved facilities operations for Unilever London HQ building (385K sq ft) by creating performance management system for facilities services.

  • Facilitated effective risk management across the UK property portfolio of Barclays Bank by writing the organisational framework, policy, and standard for engineering asset management when undertaking maintenance or new installation work on critical engineering support systems.

  • Established Facilities Management regime for a multi-use, multi-tenanted facility incorporating residential conference facilities, commercial and private residential space.
